Projects by Country
MWIA is part of the wider Mary Ward International Network which sees the Loreto Sisters and their colleagues working on the ground, supporting projects across 23 countries. Since 2006, MWIA has been providing support to many of these projects to create a just world where women share leadership, children thrive, and communities live in harmony with each other and the earth.
The Loreto Mission in Rumbek, South Sudan, has assisted the Maker Kuei community by providing education, health and employment. This project will improve the health and well-being of people living in Maker Kuei by ensuring healthcare is more accessible to those who live at vast distances from the main town of Rumbek.
In 2006 two Loreto Sisters, Elizabeth Donnan & Pat Hanvey began a new foundation in Zambia. From their home in Lukulu, on the banks of the Zambezi River, they work in grassroots development, primary health care, and education. Most recently, they established the Sancta Maria College of Nursing and Midwifery, promoting health education and economic development in this remote community.
